It's true . . . all those fitness bars and sports drinks really aren't necessary

When I was seriously running a lot of miles a few years ago, I got hooked on Kashi's Go Lean Hi Protein & Fiber bars. There was one that was covered in some white chocolate looking stuff and tasted just like carrot cake. The best candy bars I ever ate, but at what cost? Each bar had something like 300 calories in it and I ate them like candy bars (eat a bar for a meal? are you kidding!?!).

On my long runs (10 miles or more) I forced myself to carry and drink Gatorade, which tastes just like watered down Koolaide to me and I don't even like Koolaide.

Come to find out, eating real food after a long run is still the best way to go. . . I'll probably still indulge in a Kashi Go Lean bar from time to time, but good riddance to Gatorade forever (well, maybe not forever)!
